ABOUT

Redcurrant/Marigolds Collective was formed by theatre artists, Chris Lam and Lissa Neptuno, to create innovative and interesting interpretations of familiar and new works, on the platform of promoting diversity in the Vancouver Theatre scene. “We want to represent a multi-racial canvas for which theatre works, new and old, can be interpreted.”

Upon discussing what project to work on this year, Chris and Lissa had had long-ago experiences with this play, and reflects what it most valued and questioned in each of our lives: Family, Love, Hope, and Change (in this case, mutation, ironic in its symbolism.)

While rehearsing for a play in the downtown East side (around the Chinatown area), Chris was struck by the status quo of Vancouver’s Chinatown. This presentation is cast with three female Asian performers (except for two roles, but not central to the family unit). This multi-racial cast will perform in a site-specific, immersive theatre mode to reflect the social and economic clout of Vancouver’s Chinatown.

"Let's start with a single, simple word. Power…I don't know of a better (play) of its genre since The Glass Menagerie…" —NY Post.

"The play itself is one of the lucky blooms; it survives, and is beautiful." —NY Times. "Off-Broadway has been gifted with a great human drama…" —NY Daily News.
